Behind the Scenes at the Cloke Leavers Photoshoot
From William's Journal:
The brief? Simple: fit the curated leavers' range on young models and place them in picturesque locations.
The models, Josh and Gabryel, and the photographer, Jayzie, are all locals from Invercargill. Choosing the locations for the leavers' shoot was an easy task. Invercargill may not be known for its urban skyline or mountainous landscapes, but there are hidden gems in this town that may surprise many. Through my own personal photography interests, certain spots stood out.
Number One, being the winter gardens at Queens Park, an award winning park with beautiful gardens. Any time you get inside a large conservatory on a sunny day, the glass ceiling acts as a natural beauty box. The winter gardens themselves are a plant lovers dream, full of mature plants. It even features a stricken boat and fish pond.
Number Two, the Don Street rebuild, modern and sleek. The time of day is crucial for this location, late afternoon ensures directional lighting from the north west to shine bright on the models and garments. With clever placement, reflections from windows shine back on models and illuminate their faces.
Number Three, Oreti Sands, the premiere dog park of Invercargill. On the site of an old golf course, this dog park was converted a number of years ago and contains kilometer after kilometer of tracks. At least 3 times a week I take my own Border Collie for a walk there. This location was chosen since it was the final and closest to sunset. Golden hour shines bright here and its protected from the prevailing westerly wind, a feature of Invercargill.
